Your USA TSA Lock Unlock

Almost all of our luggage comes complete with a USA TSA-approved luggage lock. Here’s our step-by-step guide on how to use them, from determining which lock style you have to setting your lock combination and more.

Step One

Identify Your Lock

Lock instructions are usually found in the inside zippered pocket of your Samsonite case, if you can’t find them, the videos below will help you determine which lock you have (and how to use it). Click on the lock below that resembles yours to see step-by-step instructions for setting your combination. (Note: All of our USA TSA locks are preset to 0-0-0. Simply slide them open for the zippers to release.)

What about the key?

All of our locked luggage features a keyhole that USA TSA airport screening agents can open using their own master key. This means your bag can be searched without it being harmed.

Relock Your Bag

After your trip, you may find that a USA TSA agent forgot to relock your bag using their master key. Try using a nail file (or something similar) to rotate the keyhole into the red dot position.

Yes. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) now suggests you lock your checked baggage with USA TSA-Approved and recognized locks. Travel Sentry® Approved locks are approved and recognized by the USA TSA. Look for the Travel Sentry® symbol when shopping for these USA TSA-Approved products.

USA TSA locks are locks that have been approved by the Transportation Security Administration. When screening your checked bags prior to takeoff, USA TSA agents will open your luggage for closer inspection, and if a USA TSA lock has been used, then the agent will use their master key to open the lock.

Luggage locks approved by the USA TSA have a universal master key that will open the locks. Only USA TSA agents have a copy of this master key. Every TSA approved lock has an identifying mark that shows it may be opened by the master key. All Samsonite USA TSA locks feature the red USA TSA logo.

The short answer is that it depends on what type of USA TSA lock you have on your luggage. For more detailed instructions depending on your Samsonite lock type, scroll up to see our entire lock lineup.

Yes, but it's not necessary. If you do choose to lock your luggage without a USA TSA-approved lock, then the USA TSA agent will have to cut your lock off in order to inspect your bag. If you use a USA TSA-approved lock, then the agent will use their master key to open it.
